Cascadian Meetings

The club has three special meetings during the year: a banquet in January, an equipment swap-sale in April, and a potluck picnic in July. Details are always announced in the Newsletter well in advance of these events.

January

Wednesday January 27, 2010 in the Meyer Auditorium at Living Care Retirement Community at 3801 Summitview Ave. This is our annual potluck beginning at 6 pm. Bring a dish to share, your plates and utensils. Coffee, tea, and punch will be provided. Come and enjoy your fellow Cascadians’ good cooking.

Following the dinner and a brief business meeting at about 7:30, award – winning outdoor photographer Alan Bauer will return for a program on the recent book he co-wrote with Dan Nelson, Day Hiking-Central Cascades. His program will be about the wonderful hiking areas north of Ellensburg.
Guests are welcome to attend the program.

Wednesday March 31 at 7:30 PM in the Meyer Auditorium at Living Care Retirement Community at 3801 Summitview Ave.
The Cowiche Canyon Conservancy is celebrating their 25th year. Local photographer and Cascadian, David Hagen, and Cowiche Canyon Executive Director, Betsy Bloomfield, will lead a program entitled, One Small Place, Seasonal Photographs from the Cowiche Canyon Preserve. David has gathered his best photos from 25 years of photographing the Preserve for this show. From broad overviews to tiny details, it will be one of his usual visual feasts. He will be accompanied by Betsy Bloomfield, the Conservancy's new Executive Director to answer any questions regarding current operations of the Conservancy.

The April meeting is also our Annual Equipment Swap and/or Sale. Arrive early to price your gear or get the best bargain.
Polar Oceanographer and Cascadian, Miles McPhee, will 'show us the science’ of global warming. Miles is well qualified, after nearly 40 years of Arctic and Antarctic research and exploration. He will also show a travelogue from a recent trip to Greenland.
Doug Jenkins, Visitor Service Specialist for the Naches District, will update us on Boulder Cave and explain volunteer opportunities. (volunteers needed now - call him at 653-2205)
